Speech from Nathanaël Benjamin on the future of stress testing

Nat Benjamin – the Bank of England’s Executive Director for Financial Stability Strategy and Risk and Financial Policy Committee (FPC) member – will give a speech on the features of the Bank of England’s new approach to stress testing. He will set this out in the context of the history of stress tests and the other stress testing work the Bank undertakes. He will also look ahead to future challenges and set out future aspirations including the need to work towards joining the dots between different stress tests.

Nat was appointed Executive Director for Financial Stability Strategy and Risk and a member of the FPC in December 2023. The FPC is the United Kingdom’s ‘macroprudential’ authority and it is tasked by Parliament with ensuring financial stability so that the UK financial system is able to absorb rather than amplify shocks, and serve UK households and businesses. Nat is responsible for the Bank of England’s work to deliver this objective.
